Dorking - Ten acre field

Tree ID: 3226

Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m

Tree girth: 442cm

Girth height: at 90cm

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 1-Aug-13

Source of earliest mention: 2013: Jenny Desoutter

Notes:

The characterful knotted and gnarled old yew has lost most of its crown, but lives on in one branch. Although at the moment many of the leaves are brown it was noted that the female tree produced arils (berries) last year. It is hoped that the success of this one branch will mark the start of more extensive regrowth. To give it the maximum chance of recovery, a group of local people who maintain the area are considering putting fencing around the tree to reduce soil compaction.
