Fountains Abbey

Tree ID: 171

Yews recorded: Lost

Tree girth: No data

Girth height: not measured

Tree sex: unspecified

Date of visit: 15-Jun-02

Source of earliest mention: 1658: The Yew-Trees of Britain and Ireland (1897) John Lowe

Notes:

5 of the yews recorded in 1758 are lost. In the early months of 2010, with the ground clear of vegetation, Edwin Pretty would seem to have discovered the remains of what might well be one of the lost ‘seven sisters’. Seven new trees have been planted in the last 10 years in an attempt to replace the trees that were lost.
