Llanbister

Tree ID: 29

Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m

Tree girth: 592cm

Girth height: at the ground

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 19-Apr-01

Source of earliest mention: 1970: Brecon Yew Survey

Notes:

April 2001 – Tim Hills: Tree 1 on the plan. Two feet of soil was piled against the trunk and into its centre. Concrete slabs also littered the ground around the bole. It was still possible to see 5 large radiating branches, presumably joined below the soil. Girth of 19′ 5” (592cm) trying to obtain lowest reading near the ground.
March 2016 – Paul Wood: As well as soil piled against the tree there was now much rubbish. I removed a bagful before taking photographs. It was my impression that if the soil was removed the tree’s girth at ground level would be considerably less than that recorded in 2001.
