March 2002 – Tim Hills: No 1 on the plan is the largest girthed of the six. In 2002 it was described as having a bole of solid appearance, but with a narrow gash revealing large hollow spaces. At a height of 5’/6′ are large holes following major branch removal. Girth of 14′ 5” (439cm) at 3′ was recorded.
In 2011 Peter Norton recorded a girth of 14′ 11” (455cm) at 3′ from the top of the slope. The bole leans and measurement was guided by nails that have been hammered into it.
