Tree ID: 4545
Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m
Tree girth: 448cm
Girth height: at 60cm
Tree sex: male
Date of visit: 20-Mar-15
Source of earliest mention: 1991: Hatton Gardner
Notes:March 2015 – Tim Hills: Furthest east of the three trees. Although the smallest girthed, this yew has already become hollow, and internal stems could be seen in the space. The holes are at head height so the old heartwood is yet to spill out. On the west side of the tree is a section of dead sapwood which will eventually decay and leave a space to the tree’s interior. The yew’s slender hollow stem rises to a great height.
Girth was 14′ 6½” (443cm) at 2′ – where a nail had been hammered into the tree, and 14′ 8½” (448cm) at 3′.
