Notes: Cherkley Court reverted to the ownership of the Beaverbrook Foundation in 1994. In 1998 the Foundation reunited the house with the estate which was held by an absentee owner. In 1890 the site consisted of 90-95 acres, but the house has more recently been described as being set in 400 acres of park and woodlands. The future of the house and estate lands in 2010 is uncertain. According to the estate manager up to two thirds of the yews were lost in the storms of the 1980s. The photo shown here from 1897 is of 'The Queen', described as 23ft round at that time. Whether it still exists is not known.
