Notes: A Norman church considered to have Saxon origins. The church is aligned ENE/WSW. Until recently this was one of only 11 churchyard sites in the United Kingdom that could boast 5 or more ancient yews. In November 2011 that number was reduced to 10 when one of Ashford Carbonell's ancients was felled (number 1 on the plan). All of the safeguards that should have protected this yew failed, and the loss of another ancient churchyard yew highlights the urgent need for greater protection of this unique heritage.
